Proposed Plans

The current narrow unused space to the south of the building is transformed with a new extension. At ground floor level an entrance, new gym, changing area, shower facility and a staircase leading to the first floor are formed. A small waiting area is provided off this new entrance area and wall boards display information to all visitors entering the building.

Currently the existing gymnasium does not have facilities to allow users to change and shower in privacy after exercising.

Existing ground floor toilets are converted to create the main male toilets for the hall and other ancillary facilities at first floor level. A corridor connects from the main entrance past a new lift and dog-leg stairs, to a separate entrance to the conference facilities in the existing single storey building. This end of the building will be used to provide revenue income from rooms let out to hirers. The existing toilets and rooms at this end of the building will remain unchanged however the space between the community facilities and the conference suite will be reorganised.

A new wider and lighter entrance area is formed both for hirers and for the entrance to the hall at first floor level. A reception office provides visual surveillance to the main entrance an office for staff guards this entrance, enlarged from the existing manager’s office. An existing kitchen is reduced in size to serve the Conference rooms, with a new access door off the corridor serving this wing of the building.

The new female toilets and the staircase to facilities above are located off the corridor linking the two entrances, together with new store rooms.

At first floor level the main staircase leads to a landing serving the new Hall, and two offices. The office above the main entrance lobby could be used as temporary accommodation for visiting preachers, or short term hospitality when required. The lift rises from the ground floor to give access to the hall via a corridor linking the main staircase to the female staircase.

At the head of the stairs an access controlled door leads to the nursery and crèche facilities. This ensures security and protection to children attending the crèche. Inside the crèche there are toilets and changing facilities for staff, a large toy store, and a kitchen area for drinks and snacks which would also serve as an area for wet activities.

An education suite of three rooms is also located at first floor level to enable the Arabic school and other training and education courses to take place. Lifts and stores, as the ground floor, are located at the centre of the building where the absence of natural light from windows is less critical.

The variety of room sizes allows great flexibility in use from small meetings of 2-3 to around 150 people in the main Hall. Audio and CCTV links would allow services to be transmitted to class rooms on special occasions giving greater capacity when needed.

Along one internal wall of the Hall (against the corridor) provision has been made for storing furniture and equipment, so again on special occasions the Hall can be used flexibly.
