YCA Cultural Project - Background

BackgroundIn March 2009 Integrated Designs & Associates were appointed to carry out a study to determine the viability of improving and expanding the accommodation and facilities on the existing site occupied by the Yemeni Community Association.

The Yemeni Community Association moved into their current premises located at Tildasley Street in 2005. Their former premises had a shop front in part of 380 High Street shared with others, and although not purpose built the move provided more than enough space to accommodate all the activities of the growing association.

The facilities currently used include a gym, youth club, advice centre, crèche, information technology training, a multi-purpose hall, and smaller rooms for the Arabic School, and other courses such as sewing, ESOL, hygiene and health instruction. Revenue income to support the work of the Community Association comes from conference facilities and rooms hired out to the Primary care Trust, and the Local Authority Education service.

The Centre is planning for the next 25 years and requires expanded facilities of a design and quality that will meet the growing demand for the heavily used centre. Having in their short history already outgrown previous accommodation, their plans are to overcome the limitations of the existing building.
