| YCA Cultural Project - Access Strategy |
As a destination the site is accessible by a range of transport modes.
Dudley Street metro station is close by giving access to the main service between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. Several bus services give easy access to the main shopping area and outlying districts of Oldbury, Walsall, and Dudley. The site is well served by the public transport system, and bus services 74, 79, 419,428,429,478 and 644 pass the site.
Currently there is space for around 22 cars on the site and by removing the mobile unit this will be increased to 25 cars in the proposed scheme. Disabled parking as previously mentioned will be at the front of the building close to the new entrance areas. The removal of four parking spaces to the space at the front of the building will ease the conflict between pedestrians and vehicles without reducing the overall parking provision and allow the soft landscaping to be increased to make
the approach to the building more pleasant and inviting.
Negotiations have taken place with the adjacent Staples Store which has a large underused car park for most of its hours of operation. Agreement has been reached for the Community Association to use 12 additional parking spaces on this adjacent site in peak periods of use. Access to the Staples car park is from Tildasley Street next to the Community centre site.
Cycle parking provision will be in the rear parking area adjacent to the Gym and new changing room area.
Existing footpaths and underpasses connect pedestrians to the surrounding local areas.
